Insurance company history files, 1915-[ongoing].

The main function of the Examiners Division is to monitor solvency and compliance of insurance companies licensed to do business in Alabama. Before conducting business in Alabama, all insurance companies, mutual aid societies, and benevolent associations are required to place information on file in the Department of Insurance. This series consists of files on each business which may include charters, articles of incorporation, bylaws, company constitutions, amendments to charters, and certificates attesting to the authenticity of company charters. If a company changes its name, becomes a new legal entity, or changes any of its articles, bylaws, or other documents, it notifies the department and the notification becomes part of the file. Information in the files would include complete documentation of a company's organization and financial structure. These files contain records on both domestic and foreign companies.
